Kwara United FC, founded in 1997, is based in Ilorin, Kwara State. They compete in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and play their home matches at the Kwara State Stadium.

Brief History:

  • The club’s roots trace back to the Kwara Water Corporation Football Club in 1974, initially intended as an in-house team for the corporation’s staffers.
  • By 1979, their talent and results expanded their scope, and they qualified for the National League second division alongside First Bank F.C. of Lagos.
  • In 1985, due to a name change in the parent corporation, they became Kwara Utility Bombers of Ilorin. Financial stress led to relegation in 1996.
  • In 1997, the Kwara State government purchased the Exide Club of Ibadan, moved them to Ilorin, and renamed them Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin.
  • The club achieved promotion back to the top level as champions of Division 1-A after being relegated from the Premier League in 2008.

  • Nigerian Premier League: Regular Season champions in 2006, 3rd in Super Four Play-off.
  • National Second Division: Champions in 1997.
  • CAF Confederation Cup: Made two appearances.
