Nigeria’s Super Eagles have maintained their strong standing among Africa’s elite, remaining in the continent’s top five teams ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
In the latest FIFA rankings released on Monday, Nigeria stayed 38th in the world, unchanged from the November edition. The position underlines the Super Eagles’ consistency as they pursue a fourth AFCON title.
The ranking places Nigeria ahead of several traditional rivals and strong contenders at the tournament, including South Africa, Cameroon and DR Congo, as well as their Group C opponents.
On the African continent, only hosts Morocco (11th), Senegal (19th), Algeria (34th) and Egypt (35th) are ranked higher than the Super Eagles, who are currently coached by Eric Chelle.
With AFCON 2025 underway, Nigeria also has a chance to improve its global ranking. A deep run in Morocco could see the Super Eagles climb higher when the next FIFA rankings are released.
