Ligue 1 Overview

Ligue 1, officially known as Ligue 1 Uber Eats for sponsorship reasons, is the highest level of professional football in France and Monaco. It’s gained significant global attention in recent years due to the rise of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the league’s overall competitiveness.

Brief History

The top division of French football, was founded in 1932 under the name “National” before being renamed “Division 1” a year later. It adopted its current name, Ligue 1, in 20021. League Structure

Ligue 1 consists of 20 teams that compete in a double round-robin format, playing each other twice, once at home and once away. The top three teams qualify for the UEFA Champions League, with the fourth-placed team entering the UEFA Europa League. The bottom three teams are relegated to Ligue 2 (French Second Division).
