Napoli booked their place in the Italian Super Cup final after a convincing 2–0 victory over AC Milan in Thursday’s semi-final clash in Riyadh.
David Neres gave the Serie A champions the lead just before halftime, finishing off a well-worked move to put Napoli in control. Milan tried to respond after the break, but Napoli remained composed and doubled their advantage shortly after the hour mark, with Rasmus Højlund firing a low, powerful shot past the goalkeeper at the King Saud University Stadium.
The win sends Napoli into Monday’s final, where they will face either Bologna or Inter Milan, who meet in the second semi-final on Friday.
Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo praised his side’s performance, highlighting their intensity and determination. “We showed real commitment and the right mentality. It’s an important result for the team,” he said.
Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri, however, expressed frustration at his side’s defending. “Once again, we conceded two goals too easily,” he admitted.
Napoli are now chasing their third Italian Super Cup title and their first since lifting the trophy in 2014. The victory also provided a timely boost after last weekend’s 1–0 league defeat to Udinese, which left them third in Serie A, trailing Inter by two points and Milan by one.
This year’s competition marks the 38th edition of the Italian Super Cup, featuring the Serie A and Coppa Italia winners alongside the league and cup runners-up. The tournament is contracted to be hosted in Saudi Arabia until 2029.
