2026 WAFCON Qualifiers: Ghana Black Queens protest over unpaid wages, boycotts training

The Black Queens of Ghana has boycotted training sessions ahead of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers match against the Cleopatras of Egypt , in protest over alleged unpaid wages .
The players are alleging that they are yet to be paid the sum of $9,500 each being their bonus for clinching the bronze-medal in their campaign at the 2024 WAFCON hosted in Morocco in July 2025.
The players had threatened to boycott the first leg played in Ismailia in Egypt but succumbed to high level intervention, they won the away game 3-0 against the Egyptian Cleopatras.
The Black Queens last Saturday went ahead with their threat as they have shunned their training sessions ahead of the second leg scheduled for Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium , the protest rocks their qualification for the 2026 WAFCON, which would also make way for their qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Sources disclosed that , Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku and Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) founder Anthony Baffoe have reached out to the players in efforts to resolve the matter, the players remain adamant in pursuing their case.
