SWAN president , Galadima task sports writers on factual reporting

The president, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria , SWAN , Benjamin Isaiah has urged sports journalism practitioners to stand up to the task of factual reporting to protect their trade from deteriorating.
He said factual reporting is the bedrock of credible practice of sports journalism, adding that, sports journalists must posses integrity to be able to excel in the trade.
Speaking at the opening ceremony at the one day capacity building programme, on Effective practice of sports journalism organized by SWAN Kano chapter held at the premises of Kano state Sports Commission, Sani Marshal road, Kano, he said of paramount importance is understanding the changing trends in journalism practice, which is key to sustaining the delivery quality of sports journalists.
Speaking through, national ex –officio of the association, Lurwanu Idris Malikawa, Mr Benjamin said the fast changes occurring in journalism, if the speed is not matched by practitioners through upgrading their skills could result to total breakdown in credibility, professionalism and sustaining the high status of the practice of sports journalism in Nigeria.
He urged sports journalists in Nigeria to invest in themselves by attending face to face courses or by exploiting resource tools that are made available digitally.
He applaud SWAN Kano for staging the workshop, urging the hierarchy of SWAN state chapters to always prioritize the essence of building of the capacity of their members.
In his remarks, erstwhile General Manager , Kano Pillars football club, Abba Galadima also emphasized on the importance of adhering to the principles of factual reporting by sports journalists .
He urged sports writers to always be mindful of their strategic position and role in the sports sector, while commending SWAN Kano for always investing its energy in organizing programmes that will enhance the practice of sports journalism in the ancient city of Kano.
