Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Donatus Agu Ejidike calls for transparency in sports activities
Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Donatus Agu-Ejidike (JP), has urged sports practitioners in the spirit of Easter celebrations to embark on national reawakening by avoiding acts the obstructs sports development growth. .
The sports philanthropist in his Easter celebrations message to Christian faithfuls said , the occasion symbolizes sacrifice, resilience, discipline, and ultimately, victory after adversity.
According to him, the resurrection of Jesus Christ signifies that greatness is forged in the crucible of pain, persistence, and purpose. That, in essence, is the very DNA of sports, he said.
He said “To our athletes and sports administrators, this season offers a strategic moment for reflection and recalibration. Just as Christ endured the cross before the crown, so too must we embrace sacrifice, integrity, and hard work as non-negotiable pillars for sporting excellence. There are no shortcuts to glory, He added that “Nigeria’s sports sector, much like the Easter story, stands at a critical intersection between decline and resurrection.
“The lessons of Easter challenge us to confront systemic decay – poor governance, inadequate funding structures, talent mismanagement, and infrastructural deficits, with courage and sincerity. If we must rise again as a global sporting powerhouse, then accountability, transparency, and long-term planning must replace mediocrity and short-termism.
“Easter teaches unity of purpose. In sports, victory is never an individual achievementit is the outcome of collective synergy. Government, private sector stakeholders, federations, and athletes must align under a shared vision to reposition Nigerian sports as a viable economic driver and a tool for youth empowerment.
“ the resurrection story is one of hope. It reassures us that no system is beyond redemption. With the right leadership, strategic investment, and patriotic commitment, Nigerian sports can reclaim its lost glory and emerge stronger, more competitive, and globally respected.
“As we celebrate this sacred season, let us move beyond rhetoric and embrace action. Let this Easter mark the beginning of a new era, where discipline replaces disorder, vision overcomes confusion, and excellence becomes our national standard.” He stated.
