Non payment of Super Eagles Wages : National Sports Commission faults finance ministry and Central Bank of Nigeria

Nigerian sports authorities have confirmed that the Super Eagles currently representing the country at the AFCON 2025 in far away Morocco were been owed backlog of their entitled wages.
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, however said that the concerned authorities have surmounted issues surrounding the payment of the entitlements of the Super Eagles players and their officials .
Impeccable news outlets domicile in Nigeria have quoted News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) saying that the chairman of the commission, Shehu Dikko said that the matter has been settled.
Dikko is reported to have said that Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu have approved the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 budget in November 2025, though the monies were yet to be released from federal government coffers.
Dikko is quoted to have said “The president approved the entire AFCON budget on Nov. 14, 2025. From our end, the funding has been fully cleared,” .
According to him “Approving the money is one thing, processing it is another, but the players know the funds have been approved,” .
In his words “The Ministry of Finance and CBN are on this, so everything will come on time,” citing the possible timely disbursements from the ministry and CBN.
Dikko further said “We sat down, negotiated and agreed on what the players are entitled to up to the final. Everybody is clear,” .
“The players know exactly what they are playing for and what their bonuses are at every stage,”
“The only cash request was daily allowances, and that has been sorted and made available,” he said.
“The bonuses have been approved. The process is ongoing, and the money will come,” .
It would be recalled that the Super Eagles players and their technical officials , last Wednesday reached the resolve to shun training sessions in protest over the alleged non payment of their wages by Nigerian sports authorities .
The players alleged that they were been owed accumulated wages starting from their first win against Tanzania .
The owed wages they claimed have to included their entitlements for their won matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique.
Impeccable sources revealed that the players have reached the resolution not to travel to Marrekech to honour their crucial quarters final clash against Algeria, .
The players were reported to have resolved to boycott all training sessions, except if their wages were duly paid .
The Nigerian lads were scheduled to leave Fès for Marrakech today Thursday, for Marrakech to honour their match on Saturday by 5 p.m Nigerian time.
