Concacaf announce Estadio Universitario in Nuevo Leon, Mexico  venue for 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals

Concacaf has announced that Estadio Universitario in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, has been selected to host the inaugural edition of the Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals. The four matches – Semifinals, Third Place Match, and Final – will all be played at “El Volcan”. This historic venue, home to Tigres Femenil, has hosted numerous elite women’s football competitions and matches, such as the Concacaf W Championship, the Liga MX Femenil finals, the Copa Amazonas against Bayern Frauen, the Camp3onas Tour against FC Barcelona, as well as friendlies against Real Madrid and the Houston Dash.

The 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals will include four clubs— Club America Femenil (MEX), NJ/NY Gotham FC (USA), Portland Thorns FC (USA), and Tigres Femenil (MEX)—and will take place from May 21 to 24, 2025.

Action will kick off on Wednesday, May 21, with the Semifinals. The semifinal matchups have been determined based on the competition’s Group Stage results, with the group winners facing the runners-up from the other group.

Semifinal 1: Tigres Femenil vs Portland Thorns FC (1A vs 2B)

Semifinal 2: Club America Femenil vs NJ/NY Gotham FC (1B vs 2A)

These matches will be followed by the Third Place Match and Final on Saturday, May 24, where a champion will be crowned.

Third Place Match: Loser Semifinal 1 vs Loser Semifinal 2

Final: Winner Semifinal 1 vs Winner Semifinal 2

Ticket sales details for the Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals at the Estadio Universitario will be announced later.

“Nuevo Leon’s Estadio Universitario is a historic venue in our region and has hosted many great Concacaf matches over the years. We are confident they will be excellent hosts for the four participating clubs and their fans, as they continue a thrilling journey to become the Confederation’s first-ever women’s club champion. On behalf of Concacaf, I would like to thank the leadership team at Tigres for their commitment to hosting the Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals and for playing a key role in the ongoing development of all aspects of women’s football,” said Concacaf President and FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani.

“It is a source of pride and a great challenge for our institution to host the Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals, where our Amazonas will seek to qualify for the first FIFA Women’s Club World Cup. Bringing this type of tournament to El Volcán and giving our fans and those of all of Mexico the opportunity to enjoy high-quality football is a reflection of Tigres’ commitment to the development of women’s football and our desire to take this team to the next level,” said Club Tigres President Mauricio Culebro.

The decision to host the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals at Estadio Universitario in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, came after carefully considering bids submitted by the semifinalists. During its internal review, Concacaf considered key factors such as infrastructure, ticketing model, security, accommodation and accessibility to the city, commercial opportunities, and visibility of the event.

The Concacaf W Champions Cup is an annual tournament that includes 11 of the best clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. It is also the sole path through which clubs in Concacaf can qualify for the new FIFA Women’s Club World Cup—the first edition of which will include 16 clubs and be played between January and February 2026.

The continental tournament kicked off the second week of August with a single-leg Play-In in which Vancouver Whitecaps FC (CAN) defeated Alianza Women FC (SLV) 1-0. With the victory, the Whitecaps advanced to the Group Stage, completing Group B.

The Group Stage saw 10 clubs—three from NWSL (USA), three from Liga MX (Mexico), and one from each of the domestic leagues of Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Panama—divided into two groups of five clubs each, with each club playing every club in their group once. The five-week Group Stage took place from late August to mid-October.

Some of the top moments from the Group Stage included an epic 4-4 draw between NJ/NY Gotham FC and Tigres Femenil to close out Group A, Canadian legend Christine Sinclair playing for Portland in front of her home fans in Vancouver, Tigres Femenil winning the first-ever Women’s Clásico Regio at the international level, and dominant performances by Club America Femenil’s defensive line, which only allowed three goals in four matches.
