NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES: Nigeria’s  sports writers  task sport minister, John Enoh   to  halt  age cheating

Journalists under the aegis of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN has urged the minister  of  sports development , senator John Enoh to develop effective  strategies to stem the rampant cases of age cheating that are now prevalent at the annual National Youths Games.NYG

The NYG event is the largest youth sports singular event staged annually in Nigeria.

The body is a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting held on  the side lines of the 2024 edition  of the NYG  held in Asaba, endorsed by the SWAN national secretary, Amb Ikenna Okonkwo called for what it described as  “ a strengthened screening system to check age cheating .

The body in the statement further said “SWAN called on the Sports Ministry to develop and apply a scientific and globally acceptable standard screening system that will eradicate repeated age cheat issues.

Saying  “The Convention deliberated on the proposal hinted by the Minister of Sports Development for a possible return to the 17 years age bracket for the Youth  Games as against the present 15 years age bracket and called for a proper consideration of the pros and cons of the idea, while calling for a strengthened screening system to check age cheating.

“The Convention called on the Federations and the Sports Ministry to develop an effective database to serve as reference points and comparison for athletes and their performance records.
