Gombe Inter Schools Athletics championship, over 3000 athletes ready to compete for glory
The maiden edition of Gombe Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championships would be staged from November 11th to 16th, 2024 at Pantami Stadium in Gombe state, northwest Nigeria.
Organizers confirmed that 85 Secondary Schools drawn from 11 Local Government Areas would be competing for glory in the historic tracks and fields events.
The championship was rescheduled from the earlier fixed date of October, 18th to 24th 2024 to the new date, owing to an scheduled government activity involving the State ministry of Education .
As part of pre championship preparations Games Masters from 65 Secondary Schools were trained to meet the demands of estimated 3,065 young athletes taking part in the maiden championship.
Works at the Games Village where AthIetes will Camp is already completed as AthIetes training and conditioning is on-going in various Schools, organizers said.
The Chairman Main Organising Committee (MoC) Ahmad Shuaibu Gara-Gombe had directed the participating Schools Principals, Athletes and all Stakeholders to prepare their student-athletes for the biggest talent hunt Championships.
The sponsor of the event, stated during a flash chat that all logistics in preparation for the commencement of the maiden Inter Secondary Schools Championship are fully on ground.
He expressed gratitude for the seamless resolution reached by the Ministry of Sports and that of Education which was transmitted through their directors namely Mrs. Zainab Isyaku Adamu, Isah Ali Doho respectively.
In his words “We remain Committed in ensuring that Gombe Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championships will be a memorable event for other states to emulated.”
Consequently, the new event date has ignited some freshness in the participating school’s dive for intensive tracks&field training and participation.” He further said.
