Football: Nigeria bankers go to war , UBA, Unity set to lock horns in opener

United Bank of Africa, UBA will file out against Polaris bank on 28th September , 2024 at Bukavu Barracks football ground  Kano,  in the opener of the 13th edition of the annual inter  bankers cup  been staged in  Kano north west Nigeria.

10 banks will trade tackles in this year’s edition of the annual football tourney organized by Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria , CIBN  Kano in cohort with BMW Sports consult.

The  team fixtures disclosed that , on parade  will be   defending champions, UBA, other teams on the fixtures are  Unity , Keystone,  Taj , FCMB, Fidelity, FBN, Access, Polaris, Jaiz .

Our correspondent reports that the draws for this year’s competition  took place  last Saturday at Universal Guest Inn, Church road, Sabon Gari, Kano.

The chairman, CIBN Kano branch , Abubakar Usman Bello urged the teams to adhere to the goals behind  the staging of  the annual event, saying the principal objective of the competition is for bankers to “bond”.

According to him ,  the bankers football  competition platform is  created to provide bankers with the chance to interact with their professional colleagues from various financial institutions .

He urged the players ,officials  and their fans and supporters to shun any act that would dent their professional image , prior, during and after their matches, irrespective of the outcome of the result from their encounters.

He appealed to the teams to invoke the  spirit of fair play and  professionalism  in an atmosphere that is always  free from  win at all cost syndrome ,  stressing that the competition is not a “ do or die affair”.

The Managing Director, BMW Consult, Mike Anike , who superintended over the conduct of the draws assured the teams that the standard of the competition has not dwindled  , assuring the teams  that their  anticipated  sweet experiences from this years competition would surpass that of the past.

Noting  that the organizers have created an  atmosphere for the teams to enjoy their games, aside the usual major prizes, individual prizes have been further  introduced, this he said  would help create a  sweeter football experience for the players, coaches, supports  and fans.
