Sports writers boycott 2026 Kaduna polo tournament
Sports writers under the aegis of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN Kaduna chapter had boycotted the 2026 edition of the annual prestigious Kaduna polo tournament.
The decision to shun the media coverage of the tournament followed allegations of the lack of mutual respect, proper accreditation, and recognition of the role of sports journalists.
According to statement jointly signed by Shehu Abdullahi and Jacob Onjewu, chairman and secretary respectively said “ SWAN Kaduna chapter wishes to commend our esteemed members for their high level of professionalism, unity and compliance by staying away from the coverage of the 2026 Kaduna Polo Tournament.
Adding that “this decision, though difficult, was taken in the best interest of our association and in defence of the dignity of sports journalism in Kaduna State. We are proud that our members stood firm and respected the directive of the chapter, despite pressures.
“We thank all our members for their solidarity and urge them to remain united as we continue to engage stakeholders for a better working relationship.
Saying that “however, members that work against the interest of the association, should be reminded that stiff penalties await them.
