Football world governing body FIFA has approved the appointment of a normalisation committee for the Nigeria Football Federation. NFF
The committee will run until 31 May 2027 at the latest.
The decision arised following from the FIFA Council meeting held in Zurich, Switzerland, on 15 October 2026.
The FIFA Bureau of the Council, Thursday said it has taken the decision in line with many others passed by the council.
The FIFA Council is the main decision making body of the organisation in the intervals of FIFA Congress.
Ibrahim Gusau had resigned as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on August 27, 2026, Gusau announced his resignation during a press conference at the NFF Secretariat (Glass House) Abuja.
Gusau’s decision followed intense pressure and public criticism been mounted over poor international team outcomes, specifically the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, followed by the failure of the Super Falcons to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup (the first time since its inception in 1991.
Checks revealed that the resignation came a week after the National Sports Commission (NSC) demanded the board’s resignation, and amid reports of a Department of State Services (DSS) investigation into the alleged misuse of 17 billion naira allocated to clear player and official backlogs.
