Nigerian sports journalists go to polls, full council grants extension to Benjamin Isaiah’s Leadership

Sports journalists under the aegis of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN has rolled out the machinery to elect its next national leadership.
In a communique issued at the end of its full council meeting held on Thursday , May 14th 2026 , which had in attendance members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), State Chapter Chairmen and Secretaries , the organ has granted one month extension approval to the Banjamin Isaiah leadership of the association.
The communique signed by the national secretary of the association, Ikenna Okonkwo stated that, the Full Council unanimously approved an appeal for a one-month extension for the hosting of SWAN Triennial Delegates Congress, with the timeline fixed for not earlier than July and not later than August 2026.
Stating that, the Full Council adopted the composition of the SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO) for the conduct of the 2026 National Elections.
In his word “The SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, officially inaugurated the seven-member committee with the mandate to conduct a credible, transparent, free, and fair election in line with the statutes and democratic principles of the Association.
Composition of the 2026 SWANECO, The committee members are:
• Hembadoon Orsar – Chairman
• Bisi Ogunleye – Member
• Jacob Onjewu Dickson – Secretary
• Bala Bawaji – Member
• Chimezie Anaso – Member
• Emmanuel Akpan – Member
• Bushrat Yusuf – Member
Okonkwo said that, speaking on behalf of the committee, the Chairman of SWANECO, Hembadoon Orsar, appreciated the confidence reposed in the committee by the President and NEC, assuring members of the committee’s commitment to delivering an election process that will uphold the integrity and standard of SWAN.
