Gambia Kicks Start FIFA Talant Discovery Academy
The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), has announced that world football governing body, FIFA has approved its application to recruits FIFA Talent Coach.
The recruitment is on track towards the inaugurating of the FIFA/GFF Talent academy under the FIFA Talent Development Scheme(TDS).
The GFF president, Lamin Kaba Bajo and his administration is willing to maximize the utilization of FIFA Global Football Development offers under High Performance Department and particularly the FIFA Talent Development Scheme.
He disclosed that the determination on the part of GFF culminated into the green light to GFF Technical Department to request for the Talent Coach program.
He disclosed that, Michael Spencer, British national and former academy coach at Charlton Athletic, has arrived in the country and is presently on a 10-days discovery visit to gather information and hold discussions with key stakeholders that he will be working with him.
The FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) is an FIFA global initiative crafted under the Lead of Arsene Wenger, the FIFA Chief of Global Football Development aimed at creating high-quality academies to nurture players with potential to excel on international stage thus “Giving every talent a chance” and accelerate development by creating and fostering “best-with-best” training environment in Member Associations, support nationwide talent identification for boys and girls, and increase contact time with coaches for players in U-12 to U-16 age. Also support development elite local coaches.
The academy is slated to be fully functional by May 2026 and that will make the Gambia and GFF be among the first 13 Member Associations in CAF to activate the FIFA Academy program.
