AFCON Final Crisis: Moroccan court sends 18 Senegalese football fans to jail
A court sitting in Morocco has sentenced 18 Senegalese football fans to jail for offences bordering on football hooliganism.
The convicts wee arrainged before the court for committing acts of hooliganism, during the AFCON 2025 final match between Morocco and Senegal.
Solacesbase.com reports that “After a hearing that lasted more than five hours, on Thursday, the presiding judge ruled that the fans — 18 Senegalese and a French national — were guilty of more than half a dozen charges, including damaging sporting facilities and committing violence during a sporting event.
Quoting Associate Press, solacebase reports that “Eleven people were sentenced to one year in prison and handed a $550 fine. Four were sentenced to six months and given a $218 fine. The remaining four were sentenced to three months and a $130 fine, lawyer Naima El Guellaf told The Associated Press.
Reports said that , when the court delivered the ruling there was drama in the court room, as one of the convicts lost consciousness , other refused to leave the court room in protest over their innocence.
