HB FC Are The New Kings of 2025 MTN NLO Cup
Hyperbuzz FC, Abuja have been crowned as champions of the 2025 MTN NLO Cup, defeating JNR Danburan FC, Katsina in a thrilling penalty shootout that concluded with a score of 6-5 after an intense 2-2 draw during regulation time.
The final match, held at the Bwari Stadium in Abuja, showcased the exceptional skill and unwavering determination of both teams.
For their stellar performance, HB FC was awarded ₦2.5 million, while JNR Danburan received ₦1.5 million.
Both teams demonstrated remarkable talent throughout the tournament, remaining unbeaten in the group phase and collectively scoring an impressive total of 18 goals.
The match was electric, with multiple near misses as fans were treated to a fierce contest.
The deadlock was broken in the 43rd minute when Mubarak Rabe found the net for JNR Danburan, scoring his 11th goal in just four matches and giving his team a well-deserved lead. But HB FC quickly retaliated, with Sunday Elijah’s header in the 51st minute equalizing the score at 1-1.
In a striking display of skill, Ridwan Yusuf unleashed an outstanding long-range shot just past the one-hour mark, putting HB FC ahead 2-1. However, JNR Danburan was relentless, equalizing again in the 69th minute when Aminu Abduljalil capitalized on a goalmouth scramble to make it 2-2.
With the match ending in a tie after regulation, the teams faced down in a penalty shootout.
Despite a missed attempt to start, HB FC converted all six of their penalty kicks with precision, while JNR Danburan managed to convert five. This victory underscores the resilience and competitive spirit of both teams, solidifying the final as an unforgettable highlight of the MTN NLO Cup.
