SWAN to honour MKO Abiola, Iwuayanwu , Chukwu, Yekini, Keshi , Assisat , Ajunwa, Galadima, Ogunnowo, others

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN would confer its diamond award on Nigerians that have contributed to national sports development.
The awards is part of activities to mark its 60 diamond jubilee celebrations, since the creation of the umbrella body of Nigerian sports writers.
Activities marking the celebrations kicked off on 24th October with Friday mosque prayers and Su nday26th October with church services hosted across the country.
The awardees would be presented with their awards on the 31st of October at the conference hall of the MKO Abiola stadium FCT Abuja. SWAN president Benjamin Isiaih disclosed.
According to him, the association thought it worthy to simply said thank you to those that have supported the cause of sports journalism practise, within over five decades .
He further stated that all those who have supported the promotion and development of sports deserved to be recognized for their national sacrifices.
Our checks revealed that over 250 ;persons world be given various categories of SWAN titles in honour of their contributions to the development of the Nigerian sports sector.
Prominent on the list of those to be honoured includes late MKO Aiola, Ahmed Aruwa, coaches, Stephen Keshi Amadu Shuaib, Ismaila Mabo, players like Rashidi Yekini, Teslim Balogun.
Other are Olympic hero, Chioma Ajunwa, women’s football icon Assisat Oshoala, past presidents of the association would be honored too SWAN said .
Grass root football, technocrat Shola Ogunnowo, N-Youth, Isiyaku Umar Tofa, Eng Nimrod amongst others would be decorated with the awards.
160 retired and active sports journalists would be conferred with the fellowship status of the association.
The lined up awardees are drawn from sports administrators, sports organizations, corporate bodies, national sports association’s, coaches, athletes, administrators and sports philanthropists.
