NSF Kaduna zonal elimination: Team Kano suffering untold hardship – Fagge
By Abdulgafar Oladimeji
The acting executive chairman, Kano state Sports Commission KSSC , Ibrahim Umar Fagge has lamented that the state contingent to the ongoing National Sports Festival , NSF zonal elimination taking place in Kaduna have been subjected to undue hardship.
Fagge speaking on the morning sports show hosted on the state government owned radio corporation , radio Kano, on Wednesday , made an outburst over the poor living conditions of the athletes coaches and officials.
Fagge who spoke in Hausa language said “ we left Kano to Kaduna to take part in the zonal eliminations, we arrived here safely, but it is sad to note that the condition s, we met here is unfavorable.
He further said “ we were accommodated by the host state , but so bad, there is no water in our facility, no power supply, in the facility , sanitation conditions are very bad, I had to go and borrow a generator to provide power supply for the use of the athletes and coaches.
“I want to thank the athletes and coaches for their commitment towards bringing glory to our beloved state, we have qualified to represent the north west in the games of men’s volleyball , handball and beach volleyball.
He , however expressed the optimism that the state would be well prepared to compete at the games proper , which has been schedule to flag off in Ogun state in the next 60 days.
In his words , “we have written to the state government and we are very confident that all our demands would be provided, we plan to camp the players for the period of two weeks before departing for Ogun.
A keen observer who spoke to this reporter under the condition of anonymity said “Any sports administrator or traveler in Nigeria knows that , your first pointer to failure is for you to rely on your host to create a conducive environment for your visiting team.
“if team Kano had to go and borrow generator to power where they were camped , then the players, athletes, offcials , including the executive chairman of Kano state sports commission had to camp in a dilapidated facility , that tells it all, that they travelled without funds, the truth is simply that Team Kano were starved of funding.
It would be recalled that, sahelsportsnews.com had earlier reported the state contingent to the games are suffering hardship owing to lack of provision of funds by the state government.
