Czechia, Montenegro and Great Britain break into Top 20 of latest FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike
The trio of Czechia, Montenegro and Great Britain are all celebrating a top 20 spot in the latest FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike after a successful last window of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.
Czechia will co-host the showpiece event later this year and they signed off in the third and final window with a win double against Greece and Italy. This has seen them rising up three places and into 18th place in the rankings.
Montenegro managed to book an impressive eighth consecutive edition of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket. They also move up three places in the rankings and into 19th spot.
Great Britain eased past Estonia and Denmark to secure their ticket to the 2025 Women’s Basketball European main event. This has led to their climb of three places and they now find themselves occupying 20th place.
Stability continues to define the Top 5 nations, with USA remaining at the helm. But while France are still 3rd in the rankings, they are now breathing down the necks of Australia. Les Bleues are looking to jump into 2nd spot as they’re now less than one ranking point behind the Opals.
Serbia move up one place into 8th after making it safely to the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket, with 9th seated Japan flying the flag for Asia by also enjoying one more step skywards.
It’s a similar case for Brazil who move up a place and into the Top 10 having won a silver medal at the FIBA Women’s South American Championship 2024. Puerto Rico are also only a couple of places behind after cementing 12th place having went undefeated at the FIBA CentroBasket Women’s Championship.
There were scenes of celebration for Portugal who beat Serbia in a shock 17-point victory. It delivered a historic first ever FIBA Women’s EuroBasket ticket and a rise of six places in the rankings to 40th spot.
Switzerland will play at the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket for the first time in 69 years after beating Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This sees them soar 16 places into the Top 50 of the ranking in 49th spot.
Outside of the Top 50, Uganda rose three places to 52nd after successfully claiming their ticket for the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025. They won four of their five games in the recent Qualifiers.
South Sudan also showed their potential with three wins at the same event and they enter the Top 100 at 86th spot – a rise of 15 places in the rankings.
Finally, Chile will be encouraged by their climb of nine spots to 70th place after securing four wins in six games at the FIBA Women’s South American Championship 2024, especially since they are the host nation of the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2025.
