NPFL ban Sammy Wejinya from stadium activities , over false allegations
The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL has banned one Sammy Weijnya from all NPFL stadium activities till the end of the ongoing season.
The league said the punishment meted on Sammy is owing to his actions that had brought the game to disrepute.
The League in a press release issued Sunday, 12 January 2024 have attributed the verdict to an incident that occurred at the VIP section in the game between Nasarawa and Rivers United.
Adding that Sammy Weijnya in a written article had alleged that he was assaulted by supporters of Nasarawa United, at the Lafia Stadium, saying “Lafia, Pain Blood, and escaping death by whiskers.”
NPFL said “After a thorough inquest conducted into the fallout of the Nasarawa Utd v Rivers Utd game, the media aide of Rivers State sports commissioner, Sammy Wejinya, has been banned from all NPFL-related activities, including league venues, until the end of the season.”
“Wejinya’s ban comes following a review on his article titled ‘Lafia, pain, blood and escaping death by whiskers’ misrepresented the true state of affairs”
“The exaggerated & false statements from the article have harmed the image of NPFL and brought the game into disrepute. ”
“Wejinya has been urged to refrain from actions that undermine the credibility of the NPFL in future as the decision was taken to safeguard the image of the league.” NPFL said .
