In a rare and heartfelt video shared by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and made availabe to Sahel Sports News, Ademola Lookman opens up about winning the prestigious CAF African Player of the Year award. The moment marks a significant achievement in Lookman’s career, one that recognizes his outstanding performances and determination over the past year.

“It’s an incredible achievement, incredible moment,” Lookman shared, his voice full of gratitude. “Special to be in a list of many great players who have achieved a lot in the game, legends. For me, that means a lot.”
Lookman’s humble reflection highlights not only his personal success but also the significance of being mentioned alongside some of the greatest names in African football history. This recognition stands as a tribute to his hard work and commitment on the field, elevating him as one of the continent’s brightest stars.

The video also shows Lookman candidly reflecting on the highs and lows of his journey. “There is a lot of special moments that have happened this year. I could speak about lots of good things, bad things as well,” he said. “The difficult moments have given me the extra strength.”

His openness about facing challenges reveals a deep sense of resilience. Lookman has faced adversity, but instead of letting it hinder him, he has used those moments to fuel his drive to succeed. This mindset has been instrumental in his rise to the top of African football.

The video is also a reminder of Lookman’s dedication to not only advancing his own career but also uplifting the next generation of footballers. “It is not just me but we have a lot of talents. Not just in the men’s game, but also in the women’s game,” he emphasized. “And for us to be able to give more ovation to the young kids to want to aspire to be like us, is the most important because if we can set a good example, they will have good footsteps to walk into.”

Lookman’s message underscores the importance of nurturing young talent, both male and female, in Africa. His belief in setting a positive example for future generations is at the core of his philosophy as a professional athlete. He hopes to inspire young players to aim high and pursue their dreams, just as he has.

Gratitude also fills the video as Lookman thanks his supporters. “I am very appreciative of your love, of your care, of your kind words, in the time of bad moments also not just the good moments,” he said. “The people who support you and show you passion in the most difficult moments, those are the people you are most grateful to.”

For Lookman, the support from his fans, family, and coaches has been crucial in his journey. He acknowledges that their encouragement, especially during tough times, has played a significant role in his success. This deep appreciation for his support system adds a layer of humility to his public persona, showing that he is not just a player focused on accolades but someone who understands the importance of community and connection.

As Lookman reflects on this remarkable achievement, it’s clear that his journey is only just beginning. His rise in African football is a testament to his resilience, talent, and the support of those around him. But beyond the awards and recognition, Lookman’s message to the youth of Africa is what truly resonates. He remains focused on giving back to the game and inspiring the next generation of footballers to follow in his footsteps.

The unseen video captures a side of Lookman that many fans don’t often see—his humility, his gratitude, and his commitment to making a difference. It’s a reminder that success is not just about personal glory but about lifting others along the way.

As Lookman continues to shine on the international stage, his words and actions will undoubtedly inspire future African stars to aim for greatness, just as he has done.
