WAFCON: South African women national football team disappointed with disastrous outing in Morocco . Tagged “ no medals, no trophy”
South African women national football team players have expressed their disappointment over their abysmal performance in the just ended Women African cup of nation in Morocco.
The team captain, Refiloe Jane, said Banyana Banyana were disappointed to have finished 2024 CAF Women’s largest football competition in Africa without a medal.
The South Africans, came to the competition as defending champions, only to finish fourth place after a losing to Ghana, in the third place clash, which ended in a penalty shootout 4-3 , after 1-1 draw at regulation time.
Jane said “We’re obviously disappointed to be going home empty-handed,” Jane told the SAFA website. “It was a tough tournament with many challenges both on and off the pitch. We gave it our all in every match and tried to retain the trophy. That was our ultimate goal.”
