The Nigeria Premier Football League , NPFL has averred that, it would sanction coaches who fail to honour post match press conference , after league matches.
The league organizers have cautioned that , NPFL clubs whose coaches should shun the mandatory post-match press conference in the 2025/26 season would be liable in the sum of ₦1 million fine.
The league’s chief operating officer , COO , Davison Owumi , gave the warnings in his remarks , during the NPFL preseason seminar for media officers, supporters’ club chairmen, and chief security officers held in Lafiya , Nassaraw state capital
Owumi pointed out that only head coaches and not their assistant are allowed to honour post match media duties, citing such as best global practices.
“Have you ever seen Pep Guardiola send his assistant to stand in for him after a game? From now on, post-match press conferences are strictly for the head coach,” Owumi said .
NPFL Director of Communications Harry Iwuala had charged NPFL media officers to be creative in promoting their brands , stressing that innovative publicity can significantly improve the league’s visibility.
Iwuala hinted that , in the 2025/2026 NPFL season , arrangements have been made to introduce pre-match interviews for both home and away teams to give fans more awareness on players and clubs.
