Methodist High School, Owo, Women’s football team zooms to the semi-finals of the Olowo’s Cup .
The MHSO Queens, coached by Victor Adeyemi made this achievement after walking over St Louis Girls Grammar School, Owo, in their opening match when their opponents failed to show up for the encounter, thereby securing the three maximum points and three goals
In their second match against Ahamaddiyah Grammar School, they triumphed with a lone goal while they wallloped Corpus Christi College by four goals to nothing giving their with the maximum nine points and not losing a game in the group matches.
The MHSO Queens are now standing bye to meet any of the qualifying teams in the semi-finals which date is yet to.be announced by the organisers.
This is the first time girls in Owo Local Government will be taking part in any active football competition and also the first time the Olowo’s Cup Tournament will be including female football in the tournament which started about three years ago.
The Olowo of Owo, His Imperial Majesty, Dr Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, on ascending the throne as the traditional ruler of the ancient town of Owo, reeled out his projects and vision to ensure that youths of the town live to achieve their visions which include using spots, especially football, in this direction.
Meanwhile, Methodist High School, Owo, also pioneered female football in Owo as the Lady Bosede Adebayo led Methodist High School Owo Old Students Association, METHSOOSA Sports Committee which was put in place by the national executive of the old students association under its president, Mr Akinola Osuporu.
Desired to make the school a sports hub in the area and Nigeria as a whole, the Bosede Adebayo and other members of the committee introduced female soccer in the school and also ensured the girls participated in the finals of the maiden edition of the JF Ayeleso Inter-class Football Competition.
Meanwhile, the boys team of the school, are not leaving any stone unturned to.ensure their qualifications in the finals of the male edition of the Olowo’s Cup Football Tournament despite losing their first match.
In the same vein, the school’s head coach, Victor Adeyemi has assured that the boys will not only beat their next opponents but will play in the finals with their eyes on winning the cup this year.
