Kano sports tragedy: NVBF president , Engr Nimrod leads high sports delegation on condolence visit to Kano

The president of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, NVBF, Eng Musa Nimrod last Sunday led a delegation of sympathizers to Kano to condole with the state government over the demise of 22 athletes, coaches and officials returning from the National Sports Festival held in Ogun state.
The delegation comprised of chairman of the sports commissioners association, director of sport Kaduna state, SA to the former minster of sports , now minister of state for trade and industry, SWAN president, veteran athletes drawn from various sports.
The delegation was received by Kano state deputy governor, comrade Aminu Abdulsalaam Gwarzo at the state government house.
Nimrod expressed shock over the death of the athletes, officials and coaches, according to him the news of their demise was devastating.
He said “’ all of them are well known to us, they are our children and our friends, the drivers are well known to us , the athletes were heroes, so we knew them , the officials were mostly retired athletes that have paid their dues in our sector, we knew them.
“can we question the will of God no we can not, immediately the news got to us, we are bound by the bond and the spirt of solidarity to quickly mobilize ourselves from various parts of northern Nigeria to come and console you in one of your most trying moments.”
“ in sports we are one family and share joyous and moments of grief together, we are bereaved, we could not sleep, we could not close our eyes, our hearts are heavy ladened , these were champions in various sports discipline all lost in an twinkle of an eye.
“the good people of Kano should know that the whole of northern Nigeria is with you at this difficult times, we pray for you and we urge you to take solace in almighty God, no doubt the sports fraternity in Nigeria has just recorded a huge loss.”
A special prayer session was conducted by the delegation , seeking almighty Allah to grant the souls of the dead sports men eternal rest.
